Are you a fan of Mega Man? How about DuckTales? If you answered yes either of these questions, then Yacht Club Games’ upcoming Shovel Knight is right up your alley! As you may already know, Shovel Knight is an 8-bit action adventure game in which you play as the Shovel Knight who is bound by the code of Shovelry to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his love. To do so, he must first defeat the eight members of The Order of No Quarter.
The game just entered its alpha phase and to celebrate, the lovely folks over at Yacht Club have announced an official release date of March 31 and provided a new trailer. It’s definitely worth checking out—the gameplay looks solid and it appears to have a pretty sizable amount of content.
Shovel Knight was unearthed last year as a Kickstarter project. Yacht Club had almost no trowel quadrupling their original goal of $75,000. While it’s easy for indie projects to get buried among others, this one boasts an impressive chiptune soundtrack with a few tracks composed by Manami Matsumae, the original composer of Mega Man.
If you want to learn more about the game (or just escape my shovel puns), you can check out the developer’s website or the robust Kickstarter page. Shovel Knight comes out March 31 for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam, with a yet-to-be-determined date for the 3DS and Wii U versions.
