Johnny Depp is in another movie, because nothing will end the world’s fascination with this man. We’ll get to my issues with Depp in a moment, but his new movie is about an eccentric rich European guy and his weird, eccentric life. It also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Aubrey Plaza (who is amazing) and Olivia Munn. While I wouldn’t call myself a Johnny Depp fan, I must admit that Mortdecai looks interesting, if nothing more than an eccentric movie that reminds me of a Wes Anderson film sans whimsy. We’ll just have to wait and see.
As for Mr. Depp himself, I’m am beyond sick of seeing him portray weird character number whatever in movie about a somewhat normal group except for that one charmingly weird guy played by Johnny Depp. I do, however, think he’s a good actor, but I would like to see him display some range this decade in a movie that isn’t terrible.
Stop getting swept up in Johnny Depp! You can’t love him if he just does the same thing in every movie. Let him display some true talent to us instead of just proving that he can be weird while keeping a straight face.
Also, fuck Tim Burton. That is all.
