Cosplayer (noun): Short for “Costume Play” refers to a person who dresses up like a character from a manga or anime series, a movie, a videogame, etc. If you attend any comic con, video game or movie convention, you’re bound to run into one of these dedicated people who love to dress up as their favorite characters.
PAX East is no exception. Throughout the show floor, you can’t help but bump into someone dressed as a character from Assassin’s Creed, Bioshock, Borderlands or a popular comic book hero or villain. Not only are some of their costumes intricately detailed, but the cosplayers are proud to show them off and pose for the hundreds of people who stop them every couple of feet for a snap shot. Now while a few are professional models with professionally made costumes that are commissioned for a particular game, the majority of the cosplayers are dedicated fans sweating away at their homes with a sewing machine and a dream to properly do justice to their favorite protagonist.
The following gallery is a salute to the men and women who were kind enough to stop and allow me to take their picture.
